IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a real-time text messaging system that has been connecting network engineers since the early days of the internet. It’s perfect for quick questions, informal discussions, and getting immediate help from experienced professionals.
What is IRC? IRC is a protocol for real-time text messaging between internet-connected computers. Think of it as the predecessor to modern chat applications, but still widely used in technical communities for its simplicity and reliability.
How to connect:
- Server: irc.nlnog.net (part of the IRCNet network)
- Channel: #nlnog
- Port: 6667 (TLS is currently not supported)
Discord Server
For those who prefer modern chat applications, we also have a Discord server that bridges the gap between traditional IRC and contemporary communication tools.
Join our Discord: NLNOG Discord Server
Discord offers:
- Voice and text channels
- File sharing capabilities
- Integration with other tools
